Cooktop Repair for Gas, Electric, and Induction Appliances
Cooktops develop different problems depending on how they create and control heat. Knowing your cooktop type and its symptoms tells us where to start.
Gas Cooktop Repair
Gas cooktops rely on gas flow, ignition parts, burner assemblies, and controls to produce and regulate heat. Problems can include:
- Burners that won't ignite
- Weak or uneven flames
- Igniters that keep clicking
- Burners that don't respond properly to the controls
- Uneven heating
- Unexpected shutoffs
- Burners that work only some of the time
We may need to check the burner area, ignition parts, gas supply, and other parts before we find the cause.
Electric Cooktop Repair
Electric cooktops use heating elements and electrical controls to produce heat. Common problems include elements that don’t heat, uneven heating, temperature control problems, and burners that work only some of the time.
Depending on your cooktop, the issue may involve an element, infinite switch, wiring, controls, or another internal part.
Induction Cooktop Repair
Induction cooktops use electromagnetic technology to heat compatible cookware. When an induction burner won’t heat, the problem may involve cookware detection, the controls, heating parts, or another part of the appliance.
Error codes and changes in normal operation also give us useful clues when we check an induction cooktop.
Built-In Cooktop Repair
Built-in cooktops are installed directly into the kitchen countertop and can be gas, electric, or induction. Because of how they’re installed, reaching their parts is different than with a freestanding appliance.
We repair qualifying built-in cooktops when your existing appliance has a performance or part problem.

Maintaining Your Cooktop
Regular care keeps your cooktop working normally and makes changes in performance easier to notice.
A few practical maintenance steps:
- Clean burners and cooking surfaces as the manufacturer recommends.
- Clean controls carefully, and keep moisture out of areas not designed for it.
- Don't drop cookware or other heavy objects on the cooking surface.
- Keep gas burner openings clear of food debris and buildup.
- Pay attention to changes in ignition, heating, temperature control, or normal operation.
- Follow the manufacturer's cleaning and maintenance guidance for your model.
If your cooktop starts acting differently, dealing with it early can catch a failing part before it becomes a bigger problem.

Why does my gas cooktop keep clicking?
Repeated clicking can come from the ignition system or other conditions affecting the burner. We’ll check your cooktop to find the specific cause, since clicking doesn’t have one universal fix.
Why is one electric cooktop burner not heating?
An electric burner that won’t heat can have several causes, including a heating element, infinite switch, wiring, or another part. We’ll check your cooktop to find the actual source.
Why is my induction cooktop not detecting my cookware?
Induction cooktops need to detect your cookware before the burner will heat. If detection isn’t working normally, the issue may be the cookware, controls, detection system, or another part. Your model and symptoms help us know what to check.
